Today was a milestone for our seniors! For the first time, those who are 18 had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote—and they did so with pride. All of our seniors took a mini field trip to the local polling location, guided by our enthusiastic Problems of Democracy teacher, Mrs. Severson. This field trip was about more than casting a vote; it was about connecting with the community and understanding the importance of civic participation. They were greeted warmly by polling officials, who even shared their yummy bars with our seniors. The experience turned what might have felt intimidating into something familiar and exciting. Thank you Mrs. Severson, our students stepped confidently into their roles as young citizens, ready to make their voices heard. We couldn't be prouder of these young leaders, embracing their civic duties and contributing to the democratic process!

There is a possibility of a pep bus going to the district volleyball tournament tomorrow. Grades 6-12 may sign up to ride the bus. The bus will leave school at 3:15 and return to school shortly after the Comet volleyball match. Students are responsible for admission and any food purchased at the tournament. **The pep bus is contingent on finding a driver.

Alexander School Fundraiser for the week of Nov. 04-Nov. 07: Help us support one of our former teachers, Samantha Vaira, who taught in Alexander for two years, shaping the young minds of our current third and fourth graders. In late July, Mrs. Vaira was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia and has since faced several rounds of chemotherapy. Recently, she was transferred to MD Anderson in Houston for more specialized treatment. As soon as Mrs. Vaira reaches remission, she will receive her sister's donated stem cells for a transplant. Here’s How You Can Help: Staff: Donate $20 to wear jeans all week! Students: Donate $5 to wear your favorite hat for a week! All proceeds will go directly to Mrs. Vaira and her family to help with medical and travel expenses during this challenging time. Let’s come together as a school community to show Mrs. Vaira the love and support she’s given to our students. Thank you for your generosity and compassion!

A notice from the ND State Health and Human Service Department: Be aware that there is an increase in pertussis (whooping cough) cases in children. Since August 1, 2024, North Dakota is reporting 28 cases of pertussis in children, two of which have required hospitalization. While most of these cases have been identified in Cass County, other North Dakota counties are starting to see cases. Unvaccinated children are at an increased risk for severe illness. Infants are at extreme risk for hospitalization and even death from pertussis, and are often exposed by their family members, such as older siblings and parents. Please review this HHS fact sheet https://5il.co/30azh. Individuals showing signs and symptoms of pertussis should be excluded from school and activities and evaluated by their medical provider for pertussis and other respiratory illnesses. Anyone who is diagnosed with pertussis should be excluded from childcare until they have been on antibiotics for five days. Please contact ND Health and Human Service Department at 800-472-2180 with any questions about pertussis
