Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” –Theodor Geisel

Good afternoon Comets!

This week has been a whirlwind of fun and excitement as we celebrate Dr. Seuss and his incredible contributions to children's literature! As many of you know, Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodor Geisel, was born on March 2, 1904—making him over 120 years old as of this past Monday! Over the course of his career, he wrote numerous beloved children’s books that have sparked creativity and imagination in young readers around the world. Some of his most famous works include “The Cat in the Hat,” “There’s a Wocket in My Pocket,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” and “Oh Say Can You Say?” These stories, with their zany characters, made-up words, and whimsical illustrations, have helped generations of children learn to read and embrace the joy of storytelling.

To honor Dr. Seuss’ legacy, our students have been having a blast with themed dress-up days all week. From “Dress Up As a Dr. Seuss Character,” where our elementary teaching staff transformed into colorful Truffula Trees from The Lorax (Mr. Allard even became the Lorax himself!) to the always-popular “Pajama Day,” it’s been a week filled with creativity and fun. Be sure to check out the photos on our website to see our staff’s adorable and creative costumes!

In sports news, our Boys’ Basketball team had an impressive showing in their District Tournament last weekend and this week. We're thrilled to announce that they secured 3rd place after winning both their first and third games! Huge congratulations to Jullian Gant, Colt Champion, and Jadon Champion for their outstanding performances, each earning Player of the Game over the course of the tournament. Your hard work and dedication have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of your efforts on the court.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that the Book Fair is coming up at the end of the month! It's always a fantastic event that offers a wide selection of books, and it’s a great chance to pick up some new reads. For any students looking to earn volunteer hours, Ms. Gowing is currently seeking volunteers to help out with the fair. Remember, all students in grades 9-12 need to complete 25 volunteer hours in order to graduate, so this is a wonderful opportunity to check some of those hours off your list.

We also wanted to remind everyone that this week is a full five-day week to make up for the snow day earlier this year, so we’ll be seeing you all on Friday! Let’s finish the week strong, Comets!

Thank you for making this week so special, and we hope you continue to enjoy the rest of the week as we celebrate all things Dr. Seuss, our hardworking athletes, and more. Have a fantastic rest of your week, Comets, and we’ll see you all on Friday!
