“What if today, we were just thankful for everything?” ~Charlie Brown

Well, it finally happened on Wednesday- the first Snow Day of the year! Due to weather conditions, the school was closed for the safety of both students and staff. The drama performance scheduled for Wednesday was canceled, and we regret to say that it will not be rescheduled.

As we welcome this season of giving, there are multiple fundraisers in place at the school. One of note is the Free-Will Donation Supper being held for Samantha Vaira on the 21st during Turkey Bingo. Mrs. Vaira was a first-grade teacher here in Alexander and is currently in Houston, Texas, undergoing treatment for Leukemia. In order to help with medical and travel expenses, the school is hosting a supper at 5 P.M in the school cafeteria. All proceeds from this supper and the coinciding bake sale will be sent to Mrs. Vaira.

Not only is there food at the school tonight, but there is also the annual Turkey Bingo! Bring your family to play some bingo, win some prizes, and eat some food! The first bingo game begins at 6:00.

Speaking of food, there is a canned food drive at the school from now to December 12th. Classes compete to see which can bring in the most canned goods for those in need this holiday season, and the classes in the High School and Elementary end who collect the most win a prize! Help out by sending your child(ren) to school with canned food with a current sell-by date.

Another way to help out those in need in our community is through the Giving Tree. Each ornament on the tree has a Christmas wish, including clothing and toys for families in need of a little Christmas help. Make these wishes come true by taking an ornament and returning it with the items! Each ornament is strictly confidential, and you will not know who you’re buying for. It’s Secret Santa at its’ finest!

Snow is on the ground, so sports are moving indoors. Girls’ Basketball began practices this week, and boys’ has an Open Gym every Sunday at 6:30 P.M.

North Dakota is known for its notoriously cold winters, so be sure to wear the proper winter gear! Students in need of a jacket can take a visit to the Comet Coat Closet. Stay safe and warm, Comets!
