Halloween is just around the corner, and Alexander has many activities planned! Get your spook on with the FTC team’s annual Haunted Museum in Alexander this weekend. Step into your favorite classic horror movies in each room and prepare to be terrified. Admission is free-will donations, and well worth the scare. Buy your favorite students or friends boo bags from the Student Council for $5 a bag. Boo bags hold both tricks and treats! On the 29th, join us in the school parking lot for the annual Trunk-or-Treat and fill your bags with candy.
November is coming up, and with it, Election Day! Seniors are trying to raise the voter turnout rate in the region (McKenzie, Williams, and Richland Counties). On Thursday, they met up with a reporter from the Roundup, and they’re trying to get a PSA on the radio. To educate younger classes on the importance and impact of voting, they are holding a faux election in the school so each class can learn how and why to vote. On the 5th, Mrs. Severson is taking voting seniors to Carthridge to place their official vote. Erica Johnsrud, the head of voting in the county, is also meeting with the seniors. For those voting on Measure #4, be sure to check out the article coming out Friday on the school website to make an informed choice with information from Senator Patten, Representatives Olson and Richter, and County Superintendent Johnsrud on how this measure will affect our schools.
In 10th grade, the sophomores are tying medieval history with the modern judicial system by recreating the trial of Thomas Beckett. Thomas Beckett was a monk in the late 1100s who was murdered in the Canterbury Cathedral by a group of knights. The class is working in groups to be both the prosecution against King Henry II, the knight’s employer, and the defense.
“I think that it's interesting how the judicial system used today ties back to cases from years ago,” Says Vivian Lundeen. “The project is an effective way to teach students about the judicial system and how it has changed over the years.”
For students especially interested in learning about the judicial system, Mock Trial is an extracurricular offered here in Alexander. Our team is three-time nationally qualifying, and the students who participate learn not only about the law, but how a trial is run, how to see a problem from multiple viewpoints, and public speaking.
Down in 6th grade, papier-mâché is the new thing! The sixth graders are making papier-mâché sharks in Ms. Stahosky’s art class, continuing their artistic journey into the deep blue.
Student Council is still accepting donations for the Animal Rescue- drop off any donations to either the office or Mrs. Severson.
We’re extremely excited to say that our football boys won their first playoff game last Saturday! Their next game is Saturday at Westhope High School at 2:00. Student Council is offering a pep bus.
See you this weekend, Comets!
