Football on grass

“Success isn’t owned, it’s leased. And its rent is due every day.” – JJ Watt

American Football. The pastime of many, a household word- football brings out qualities players can use for the rest of their lives. Here in Alexander, our team isn’t just a team. “It’s a brotherhood,” says senior Sean Alfaro.

“This was a good group of guys to have on my final season,” Shane Cross says. “I’ve grown to love each and every one of them. We might screw around during practice, but when it comes to crunch time, we’re locked in. This is the one team I’ve ever actually loved, and I have full faith in it.”

“I’m sad this is my final year in Alexander, but I’m ready for the next chapter.” Minot State-bound Jordan Hernandez says. “The goal is to make it to state, but we’re taking it one play at a time. I do feel like we’re closer than we’ve ever been.” We’re excited for our blonde boys’ (they’ve all bleached their hair for playoffs) final home game on Friday, which is also Senior night. Come by and join us for what is potentially the last Varsity Football game on Alexander soil this year!

The East Coast has been ravaged by hurricanes this past week, but those aren’t the only natural disasters happening. Last weekend, a large fire broke out near Arnegard. Our amazing First Responders immediately arrived with fire trucks and worked hard to contain the fire in far-from-ideal conditions. The school held a fundraiser to raise money for our local Firefighters, allowing kids to wear a hat all week if they paid five dollars, then given to the Fire Department. Thank you to our brave First Responders- you all are heroes.

Speaking of heroes, on the 10th the Juniors and Seniors went to a Military Job Fair in Williston. There, groups were escorted by military personnel and shown military vehicles, weaponry, and other equipment. They learned about how and where this equipment is used and heard real stories from real veterans. One man was even deployed in Syria as recently as last week! Our students had fun learning about different military career options.

A quick shout out to the October students of the month: First grader Alayna Krueger for her positivity, Eighth grader Julian Cross for her kindness, and Senior Jordan Hernandez for his outstanding leadership skills. We’re proud to call such great students Comets! Our teachers of the month are Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Jacobson, both teachers for over thirty years! The community member of the month is Judge Daniel El Dweek for his loving volunteerism.

The Book Fair is still looking for high school volunteers. If you’re interested in gaining some community service hours, talk to Ms. Gowing!

The Student Council is still holding a pet drive to help animals in need. Bring your extra pet supplies to Mrs. Severson to help a critter.

Every year, the Junior class holds a fruit sale. Not only are they selling fruit, but there are also other items- including cheese! Talk to a Junior in order to get yourself some goodies.

Pump up Comets- Playoffs are just around the corner, and we’re looking at an amazing team.
