“It’s kind of fun, doing the impossible.” –Walt Disney
This week was homecoming, and our theme was Disney. This meant a lot of extremely creative costumes for dress up days! Two of our kindergarteners were dressed as Mario and Luigi. “I wish we could wear this every day, like the movie,” Beau says excitedly with his friend Zeke. Up in fifth grade, Letti took Lilo and Stitch day a step further than most, painting her face blue! “I’m Stitch,” She says with a grin. “Tomorrow I’m going to be Coraline.”
Even the teachers got into the dress up spirit! Mrs. Bowers dressed as Snow White on Monday. “So far, Homecoming is going pretty good. It seems pretty fun.”
“I think homecoming is awesome,” Becky adds. “I love the theme this year.”
Saturday is the dance, and everyone seems to be looking forward to it. “I hope to see a lot of people at the dance this year,” Paige Delany, Student Council president and Homecoming Queen, says. “The decorations are going to be better than ever before.” Homecoming King is Shane Cross.
Our homecoming games were also amazing to watch, extremely tense, and riveting, with Monday’s volleyball game at a close loss. The Varsity boys have a game on Friday, and we’re looking forward to another win from them!
Meanwhile, outside of homecoming news, FLL teams were announced Tuesday afternoon. “We’re looking forward to the season,” Jennifer Chapman, one of the new coaches, says. “Regionals, and, if we make it, state.” We asked her why she chose to coach First Lego League, and she said, “To try something new! I also like math and technology. It was also a good opportunity to get started with the grades I want to teach.”
In this world of technology and screens, it’s important to know some information about computers. Therefore, 1st grade is learning coding, 2nd grade is learning hardware and software, and 4th grade is learning how to code robots in Ms. Tonya’s class! Inputs, Outputs, and all sorts of helpful information are being taught to our elementary kids, just in time for FLL to start.
The amount of Comet Pride shown at Pep Rallies and games was outstanding (here’s to our seniors for winning the class competitions), and we’re proud to have such a great school filled with amazing students. Let’s hear it for our Alexander Comets!
