"Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us." -Jane Austen

Last Friday’s Football game was a phenomenal win, 50-16 against Berthold. The theme was changed to Friday the 13th, and many people showed up with their spooky side out! The younger boys remain undefeated, and we had the chance to talk to Haas Lundeen and Bradyn Rosco, both 7th graders on the team.

“I think it’ll be an undefeated season,” Haas said. “We’re decently a well-rounded team.”

“I’m just disappointed we can’t wear our jerseys in school on game days,” Bradyn adds. “But I’m excited for the season.”

The varsity volleyball girls took third in the Watford City tournament on Saturday, with only one loss. Our future varsity volleyball girls have had a promising season so far as well, 4-0. “I think we’ll win,” 7th grader Jaelyn says about upcoming games. “I’m gonna be in volleyball my whole life.”

“We’re all positive, we work well together,” Annabelle, also in 7th, notes.

Ms. Stahosky’s 6th grade art class is enjoying their Chihuli project. “We’ve finished painting the bottles, so now we’re going to be cutting and building the armature to hold it up.” Ms. Stahosky says. “The kids are excited because it’s very hands on, and they get to use glue guns.” In 7th grade, these young artists are using watercolor to paint North American fish. “I’m doing a northern pike,” Says Lane. “I like fish.”

“I’m excited because I get to do Nemo and Dory,” Jaelyn says. “A clownfish and a blue tang.”

These watery creations will be displayed in the glass case by the library. “It’s a journey through watercolors,” Ms. Stahosky says.

Homecoming is next week! The theme is Disney, with the quote “Alexander: Where Dreams Come True”. Dress up days have been announced, and we’re all looking forward to seeing Disney come to life in our halls! The Homecoming Dance is next Saturday at 7: A Night in Neverland! If your date is from out of town, you must get them approved by Ms. Faller by this Friday the 20th.

The first issue of the Comet Newsletter came out earlier this month, with some fun new changes. There is now a monthly vine that is accessible through a QR code, and there is going to be a comic section! Any student can create a comic and submit it to either Kim McLinden or Ms. Gowing. The comic must be 3-5 panels long, with at least two pieces of dialog. Put those pencils down to paper and get creative Comets!

Drama is still looking for five more members for non-speaking parts and technical assistance. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and the group is open to any 7-12 graders.

First Lego League is forming teams for the 2024-2025 season. Essentially FTC for elementary, FLL is a robotics competition where 4-8 grade students work together to solve scenarios which involve real world problems. The first round of tryouts is on Friday.

Here's to another great week here in Alexander!
