“Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.” –Winston Churchill

Welcome back to This Week in Alexander! We’re happy to say our younger football teams, 4-6 tackle and flag football, have replaced the Varsity in being undefeated! While it is sad that the Varsity boys lost their winning streak, the losing game was extremely close and we’re proud of our boys for working hard. We’re confident in an easy comeback on Friday’s game! The theme is Throwback Friday, so it’s time to break out those old clothes from decades past and dress up as your favorite decade!

Homecoming is coming up soon, and the energy is buzzing in the air! Student Council is planning some fun for homecoming week, as they usually do. From Pep Rallies to class competitions, we’re looking forward to seeing what they’ve got up their sleeves with this year’s Disney theme. The dance is on the 28th, and the theme is A Night in Neverland. Be sure to get your tickets!

Volleyball has been working hard, and it shows with a heavy win against Mandaree this week. “The community coming to games to support us creates a good atmosphere and makes it a lot more fun to play on the court as a player,” Senior Jadyn Henglefelt said when interviewed. “We have a few new players who are still adjusting to playing varsity, and the community helps. Individually, we’re all skilled, and we take advantage of that as a team. As games go on, we’re growing as a team, and we’re improving each game. Everyone is really supportive of each other.” The girls have a tournament on Saturday in Watford City, and would love to see you there!

This week, 1st grade planted their seeds for their hydro planters! The two planters came from two separate grants, and the first graders are using them to grow their own vegetables. Among the planted seeds are peppers, cauliflower, tomatoes, lettuce, and basil. Once the plants are big enough to be moved into the planters, the roots can grow up to two feet long!

Do you like coffee? You’re not alone! The 7th grade is selling coffee and treats for $20, and they’re worth a look! Ask any 7th grader for the catalog!

The Mass Media class has started a "Student of the Month" program to celebrate students who have gone above and beyond to help. This month's awesome students are Cheyenne Link, Letti LaMar, and Jadon Champion. Cheyenne said, "It's nice to hear good things about yourself," while Jadon thinks "it's cool." Letti feels like she deserved it, although the photos and questions are a bit awkward. Let's give a big congratulations to September's Students of the Month!

The Student Council is hosting a Golf Scramble October 5th. Sign up is $500 for a 4-member team and registration is at 11:00 a.m. the day of. Sign up and play some golf for prizes! Contact Mrs. Severson for more information and to sign up.

Ineligibility started this week. That means any student with a failing grade is unable to participate in extracurricular events until their grade is up. Eligibility is run on Wednesdays, so any missing work should be turned in on Tuesday at noon is the deadline to boost your grade. Remember, our teachers hate seeing students fail, so they love to help! Don’t be afraid to ask.

Keep strong Comets! The year has only just begun, and with the right attitude, its sure to be a blast.
