“Remember that guy who gave up? Neither does anyone else.” –Unknown

We’re officially one month into the school year, and everything seems to be running smoothly. Our sports teams are making a mark, with the first volleyball game of the year at a very close loss and the football team running undefeated! “We’re on track,” Jordan Hernandez, Running Back, said on Tuesday. “Our line are dawgs and the freshmen stepped it up.”

“You can really see the work we put in over the summer,” Quarterback Jacob Novak says proudly. “We’ve been working hard, and the bond is crazy.”

It appears the freshmen really did “step it up”, with 9th grader Dylan Stromme walking away with the MVP of last Friday’s game. The boys have their next game on the 6th in South Prairie.

Old Settlers was a lot of fun, as it usually is. Besides the Alexander win at the Old Settlers Bowl, there was the annual Soapbox Derby, bonfire, parade, and street dance.

Drama started this week, and we hope to see you at the open house performance, time and date are to be determined at a later date. Our drama program is one of the lesser-known but successful extracurriculars here in Alexander. The performances are enrapturing and a delight to view and act in! Those who participate in it have loads of fun and they are always looking for more members!

“I joined drama because a lot of my friends are doing it and it helps my future career while opening up more career paths,” Ben, a Junior, says. “It also gets me more attention from employers- and I thought it would be fun. My favorite thing about drama would be the new experiences working backstage, with new people, and having fun doing it.”

Have you ever heard of Dale Chihuly? Ask a sixth grader about the famous artist- they’re learning about him in Ms. Stahosky’s art class! The famous glass blower’s work is going to be the inspiration for their next project, which Ms. Stahosky hopes to display in the commons area. Instead of using glass to create the Seussian sculptures, the class will be using plastic bottles.

Last week, we mentioned a few of our new high school teachers- but there are quite a few new elementary teachers as well! Starting from the 5th grade, we have Mrs. Land, who has been teaching for 28 years. This is her 5th time teaching 5th grade! Her favorite season is fall. Mrs. Schmidt in 4th grade loves seeing how much the kids grow throughout the year. This is her second year teaching at Alex, but her first solo class. Her parents and grandparents went to school here when they were young, but she didn’t. Her favorite season is also fall. 1st-grade teacher Mrs. Ritter has known Ms. Bieber since birth, and she shares a birthday with her daughter. Her favorite thing about her nine years of teaching is that “every day is something new”. Her favorite season is fall, and her favorite color is orange. The new Special Ed. teacher, Mrs. Biagioni, is currently working toward her Doctorate in education during her sixth year of teaching. She loves teaching because of the students and enjoys yoga and summer. All of these new teachers are a great asset to the school!

This is the last week before eligibility sets in, so a friendly reminder to all of our students that a failing grade results in a temporary ban from extracurricular events. Our teachers are always willing to help a student in need of a better grade by helping them study.
